Blue Cap |
| The General Stud Book notes that if Blue Cap,
sire of the Blue Cap Mare, was the same
horse as Penruddock's Blue Cap then he was sired by Old Greyhound [GSB1:88]. However, this seems unlikely as Mr Penruddock's Blue Cap placed
2nd in the King's Plate at Salisbury in 1729, won by Sir William
Strickland's Batt
(b c 1723 Strickland
Turk). This would indicate that his year of birth was also 1723 and
does not allow enough time for his great-grandson Bolton Goliah to arrive in
1730. Both the Turf Register and the Racing Calendar
record the horse in question as Sir Matthew Pierson's Blue Cap [Pick1:41 & Cheny1744:xxviii].
An earlier Blew Cap belonging to King Charles II ran at
Newmarket in 1674 and 1675. |
