Old Clubfoot |
| According to the stud book of Cuthbert Routh, reproduced in Early
Records of the Thoroughbred Horse, by C M Prior, the pedigree of
Surley reads: "The mare Surley was out of was got by Coneyskins,
her dam by old Ho'boy, & her dam was bred by old Wilks, and out of a
mare of Sr Wm Wyvill's, called Clubfoot" [Early Records:30].
According to the General Stud Book, Hutton's Blacklegs was
"by Hutton's or Mulso Bay Turk - Coneyskins - Old Club Foot, by
Hautboy" [GSB1:378].
According to Pick's Turf Register, Hutton's Blacklegs "was
got by the Mulso Bay Turk; his dam by Coneyskins, his grandam was the
Old Clubfoot Mare, got by Mr Wilke's's Old Hautboy The above are true
Copies from Mr Hutton's Stud-Book" [Pick1:160].
From the above, it appears that Mr Routh has provided another generation
for the mare line of Family 34, also named Old Clubfoot, owned
by Sir William Wyvill (1645-1684), 4th Baronet. |

[GSB1:228]. "Suwarrow was by Star, not Stride" [GSB1:Errata and
