 The earliest identified dam in contemporaneous certificates of pedigree for half-sisters Nancy Air and Maid of the Oaks is a Mare by "Spotswood's Old Diamond" aka: imported Jack of Diamonds. Attribution of this mare to the produce of imported Diana 12-b was a later construction of S. D. Bruce's*. While not altogether implausible, mtDNA sampling (MRCA Young Maid of the Oaks) so far indicates that it was most likely incorrect.
