Conqueror [Appleyard's] ch g 1728 (Fox - Sister to Castaway Mare, by Bethell's Castaway). Sire Line Darcy's White Turk. Family 40.

Bred in Yorkshire by Captain Francis Appleyard he was a full brother to the Devonshire Conqueror (gr c 1725) who appears in the pedigrees of Juniper (b c 1752 Babraham) and Genius (b c 1753 Babraham) who were both exported to America. He was also a half brother to Appleyard's Craftsman (gr c 1724 Gallant's Smiling Tom) who won the Ladies' Gold Cup at York in 1729 and to Appleyard's Favourite (gr c 1730 Gallant's Smiling Tom) who won the Royal Plate at Ipswich in 1735.

Following a successful turf career, in which he won every Royal Plate he ever started for, Conqueror became a trial horse. He was thought to be one of the best geldings that ever ran at Newmarket. He was later owned by Thomas Thynne (1710-1751), 2nd Viscount Weymouth.
 
 
Race Record
 
In 1734 he won the King's Plate at Guildford, beating Mr Sere's [or Sayer's] Fox (b g 1728). Won the King's Plate at Nottingham, beating Mr Luck's Young Royal (b g 1728), the Duke of Bridgewater's Slouch (ch c 1728) and Mr Warren's Sly Cupid (b c 1728). Won the King's Plate at York (ridden by Robert Watson), beating Mr Carr's Dusty Miller (gr g 1728 Young Greyhound), Mr Luck's Young Royal, Mr Thompson's Vicar of Bray (b c 1728) and 7 others. Won the King's Plate at Lincoln, beating Mr Grisewood's Sly (ch c 1728 Partner) in 1 heat. Grisewood's Sly had previously won King's Plates at Lewes and Canterbury. Won the King's Plate at Newmarket in October, beating the Duke of Somerset's Quibble (ch c 1728 Wyndham).

In 1735 he won the King's Plate at Newmarket in April, beating Mr Grisewood's Sly, the Duke of Somerset's Quibble and the Duke of Bolton's Chance (gr c 1728 Childers). Running for Mr Panton he won a 300gs match at Newmarket October from the Duke of Bolton's Looby (br c 1728 Bay Bolton).
 
In 1739 he won 40gs at Bedford. Won 50gs at Bridgenorth. Won several other prizes.
