Summary of Corrections
Family 1
The traditional pedigree given for the Bonny Lass who is ancestress to the German matriarch Grave and Gay (b f 1899) attributes her to Family 11. However, she was more likely a descendant of the Bolton Bonny Lass of Family 1. See Bonny Lass*.
.
Family 4
The General Stud Book includes an extra cross in the pedigree of Old Cartouch. See Trumpet's Dam.
.
Family 6
There are unresolved date conflicts in this family. The General Stud Book says that some sources make Young Bald Peg by Spanker rather than the Leedes Arabian. See Young Bald Peg. Based on an entry in the manuscript stud book of Cuthbert Routh, C. M. Prior suggests that the Wyvill Roan Mare was the correct dam of Cream Cheeks, rather than Lord Darcy's Spanker Mare. See Wyvill's Roan Mare.
.
Family 9
The pedigrees of the Whiteneck Mares differ from those presented in the General Stud Book. The corrections are from Lord Godolphin's stud book. See Whiteneck Mares.
.
Family 9-c
The pedigree of Young Sir Peter Mare, ancestress of such horses as Nasrullah*, is thought to have been fabricated. The probable taproot mare of this family is Milfield Mare. In order to maintain accordance with the Bobinski family numbering system Family 9-c would then have two taproot mares, Crab Mare and Milfield Mare. See Young Sir Peter Mare.
.
Family 12
The traditional table for Family 12 is based on an error, due to confusion between the two Montague Mares. However, there are two distinct taproot mares for this family, one the ancestress of Family 12 and 12-g, the other the ancestress of Family 12-a, 12-b, 12-c, 12-d, 12-e and 12-f. See Family 12.
.
Family 14
The dam of Romp, or Miss Romp, is confused in the General Stud Book with the Merlin Mare of Family 28. See Romp. The pedigree of Young Look at Me Lads was corrected by C. M. Prior. See Young look at Me Lads.
.
Family 15
Selima is traditionally attributed to this family, however, her correct pedigree surfaced in Lord Godolphin's stud books. She belongs to Family 21. For the verbatim reports of C. M. Prior and John Hervey see Selima.
.
Family 18
The General Stud Book says that the dam of the Coalition Colt is a Danger Mare. An early Irish publication corrects his dam to a sister to Antelope. See Coalition Colt.
.
Family 21
There were four, rather than two, sisters to Sherborne. Prior notes that only two of them appear in the General Stud Book and that their offspring are randomly assigned. See Sisters to Sherborne. Cinderella's sire is wrongly stated by many sources. The correction appears in a later volume of the General Stud Book. See Cinderella.
.
Family 23
There is a great deal of confusion over the identity of Piping Peg and Hobby. The evidence points to Piping Peg and Hobby being sisters. See Piping Peg. Ringtail Galloway is traditionally attributed to Family 23 based on a mistake in reading her pedigree. See Ringtail Galloway.
.
Family 30
There is some confusion over assigning offspring to Golden Locks or her sister. See Golden Locks.
.
Family 32
The Young Child cross is often erroneously dropped in Silvertail's pedigree. See Silvertail.
.
Family 37
Bay Bolton's pedigree is supplied in two versions in the General Stud Book. See Sister to Merlin's Dam.
.
Family 40
Most sources attribute Jenny Cameron* to Miss Belvoir, based on the identification of her dam as "the cabbage-arsed mare," but Jenny Cameron was a bay and Miss Belvoir was homozygous for grey. Jenny Cameron is more likely a half-sister to Grenadier. See Jenny Cameron. The traditional pedigree of Mary Grey* was based on a proposition by Skinner made well over a hundred years after her birth. See Mary Grey.
.
Family 44
The pedigree of Noble contains an unknown cross. See Young Coquette.
