Express and Roxana |
| These two English mares were imported in utero by Colonel Byrd and
have not been identified. Between them they produced several offspring,
although it is not possible to attribute any of them specifically to
either Express or Roxana. Colonel William Byrd 3rd
(1728-1777) maintained his Westover stud in Charles City County,
Virginia. His English imports included Express, Roxana, Calista,
Pocahontas, the Randolph of Chatsworth Mare and the sires Tryal and
Valiant.
|
| . |
| Pompadour |
| Harrison could find no evidence in the
American Stud Book for some
offspring credited to Jenny Cameron* which were sired by Valiant*.
Valiant* was one of the Byrd imports, and Harrison found an
advertisement which read "Pompadour, whose dam was an imported mare
of Col Byrd's, sire Old Valiant" which links her to Colonel Byrd's
mares, either Express* or Roxana*. However, by dates, Pompadour could
not have foaled a Speculator* filly. It is probable that there is a
missing cross by Mark Anthony. |
