View of Bedale Hall,
Yorkshire, home of the Peirse family until 1947, from the WNW. It is now the local
library and government offices. The family held races at Bedale until
Northallerton started in 1765 but were much involved in the turf,
through Henry the younger, who owned
Reveller. A doggerel verse
Hird's Annals of Bedale recalls him, among other things.
When Peirse died, his daughter inherited, wife of Admiral Beresford. The
B-Ps live in Bedale still. The town keeps its Georgian character - the
High Street is visible stretching away behind. A number of Georgians
were happy to have a park on one side and a town on the other - Petworth
being a notable example. |

The stables, where Reveller was trained, lies beside the
house to its south. The gallops, now a golf course, lay in the park,
further to the SW, with the racourse further over to the SSW. It is
largely covered by houses. |
