Bred and owned by H. C. Hatch of Toronto, Ontario, he was a half-brother to Winnipeg Futurity winner Sayonara (ch.f. 1941), and to Maple Leaf Stakes winner Ascendant (b.f. 1945).

In 1944 Uttermost won the Coronation Stakes, Mrs. Orpen's Cup and Saucer Handicap, Clarendon Plate and the Winnipeg Futurity, placing 2nd in the Diamond King Handicap.

In 1945 he won the King's Plate, Breeders' Stakes, the Prince of Wales Plate and the Plate Trial.
